e-Prescribing Adoption Through an “On-demand”
|
Implications on adoption and usage The potential benefits of widespread e-prescribing adoption are well documented, especially with the new stimulus funding incentives. Acknowledging this, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced financial incentives for adoption and usage. Yet, even with the clinical and financial benefits, the use is still anemic nationwide—less than 10 percent of physicians leverage e-prescribing. With the introduction of innovative Web 2.0 technology, many of the hurdles to adoption have the potential to be minimized, or even eliminated. This white paper will examine an Independent Physician Association (IPA) that has chosen an “on-demand collaboration platform” for deployment of e-prescribing and additional applications and the related impact on adoption and usage. By choosing to adopt e-Prescribing, the IPA not only realized a cost savings for patients, health plans and employers but also was able to impact quality of patient care.
